Health Canada passes The Tobacco and Vaping Products Act
Canadians will soon be seeing more advertisements promoting e-cigarettes and vaping supplies as well as having easier access to vaping products.
The newly passed law allows the legal manufacture, import and sale of vaping products for products that contain nicotine, as well as nicotine free e-liquids.
Health Canada and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research have established an external Scientific Advisory Board on Vaping Products. This advisory board will review the science on vaping products and provide evidence and advice on a regular basis.
The board includes:
- scientists
- academics
- researchers
- health professionals
The members have expertise in a range of disciplines, including:
- clinical medicine
- population and public health
- basic and biomedical science
While regressive bans on Vaping are seriously considered in the U.S. in places like the Bay area, Canada has settled on a more enlightened, informed approach.
The Tobacco and Vaping Products Act (TVPA) became law on May 23, 2018.
While evidence is still emerging, some evidence suggests that e-cigarette use is linked to improved rates of success when quitting.
